Alabaster

15 min

Whiteness and destitution.

The solo of a white body on a white background. A body that inhabits the void and the beating of its skin. An animal body of which we do not know if it is born or performing its swan song. Some will briefly distinguish the bird, the insect, the snake, with this characteristic movement of the wing, the pupil or the tail. Others will see on the contrary a piece of meat on the work surface, all in bones, muscles and tendons. On the border between choreography and dance, L'albâtre is a clear and intense performance, a square – rather than a bubble – out of the ground and time. A score of breathing and apnea, of immobility and silence, with a body that detaches itself and moves away from the everyday to the point of absurdity.

“So there I was, I had no ideas, nothing at all. Writer’s block. There was this blank space, this emptiness in front of me, taking up all the space. I couldn’t see anything else. So I told myself that I was going to start from that; from the blank space. From there, it started. I remembered
from a painting by Kasimir Malevich "White Square on a White Background." And there, white became a square. White square."
